Rehwald 747 Wing House
A new three-story home in the Santa Monica Mountains is currently being built from a retired 747 plane. The wings are being used for
the roof of the main stepping hillside residence and the nose of the plane as a meditation chamber. The most difficult problem we
had with this project was the connection of the plane to the actual structure.

Old Oak
New 10,100 sq.ft. custom home with detached stables. This project is a 2 stories with a basement utilizing a combination of timber
and concrete shearwalls and steel moment frames. It also had a potential liquefaction problem so we designed a mat foundation for
the main residence to avoid excessive deflection in the soils during a seismic event. The home was put on the market in November of
2007 for $16,500,000.

Evans
The Evans Residence is a remodel of a West Los Angeles mid century modern home originally designed by Saunders Benson and Park Architects.
The home is situated on a hillside near Crest Hill Park. It features two bedrooms, two baths, an office, a kitchen, living room, family room and
dining room on the ground floor and it also has an exterior pool and deck. Some of the modifications to the home included wall layout changes though out, expansion of the kitchen and addition of a new dinning room. The modifications required considerable
changes to the existing structure. New steel moment frames were integrated seamlessly into the floor system while exposing some columns
to accentuate the structure of the building. Redesign of the floor and roof also took place to replace damaged framing and new framing was added to support
changes to the overall floor layout, exterior walls and glazing.

Hussey Residence
The project is a new 5,000 square foot single family residence located in the Santa Monica Canyon. The contemporary design was challenging
with multiple level transitions and large window walls that necessitated the use of exposed steel moment frames and braced frames
throughout the structure. The 2 story volume living area at the heart of the residence has a glass and steel bridge overlooking the
ground floor living property to create a private outdoor living space.

Davis Studio
Davis Studio was designed with respect for the environment and healthy living. For that reason many recycled materials were used such
as recycled steel siding, tankless hot water heater, radiant heat, natural ventilation, recycled denim insulation, cork and recycled
rubber flooring, recycled paper/resin countertops, formaldehyede-free wheatboard cabinets, and no-VOC paints. The house is three stories
high and a mere 17' wide. The studio is located on the ground floor and the whole house is surrounded with views of sky, sunsets,

Folded Stair
Another tough one. David Hertz wanted a stair with no stringers. We came up with a continuous folded plate stair and tried to support
it any way we could. After numerous computer modelings we said: build it! The computer said it would work fine and it did... This
home was also featured in the Fall 2003 issue of In Style Home.
